THE MISSION of this nonprofit organization is to provide assistance dogs, obtained through shelters and rescue groups, to children and adults with disabilities, so they can have increased independence.

Shelter or rescue agency dogs, generally 18 months of age and older, are trained from six months to two years, depending on the tasks the dog needs to learn and other factors. After the dog is placed with a partner, six months of follow-up training is provided as needed.

Applications by people with disabilities seeking a dog go to the Board of Directors of Assistance Dogs of Texas Inc. for approval. A trainer's evaluation of the needs of the applicant is also reviewed.

Donations to help support this work are welcomed. Please phone for additional information.
